Dubai Autodrome FIA GT3 European Championship Finale cancelled

Dubai Autodrome management today announced that they will not be hosting the final round of the FIA GT3 European Championship which was scheduled to be held on 11 and 12 November 2009. Dubai Autodrome wish to thank the FIA, ATCUAE, SRO the organizers of the FIA GT championship and teams for their support and understanding of these circumstances. We look forward to welcoming them back in years to come, for the event which has been a mainstay of the Dubai motorsport calendar.

Renault Fluence debuts, may come to GCC


Renault’s Turkish factory, production home of the goofy Symbol and Clio sedans, has added a new model to its line-up. Dubbed the Renault Fluence, it is intended to replace the French-built Megane in “low-end” markets such as Turkey, Russia, Romania and most likely the GCC countries eventually.

As the start of the 2009/2010 fast approaches there is one man who is looking forward to what is in store for local UAE motorsport. Dubai Autodrome Chairman Saeed Khalfan is enthusiastic about the prospects, attempting to develop and promote UAE national-level motorsport at Dubai Autodrome. This forthcoming season, events range from karting through to the newly introduced UAE GT Championship. Along with the UAE Sportbike Championship, the UAE Touring Car Championship and the GulfSport Radical Cup, local competitions move up a level. At karting level, there is the Sodi World Series (SWS) sprint races in conjunction with the Dubai Autodrome Motorsport Club (DAMC) Championship and the Nivea for Men Endurance Challenge.

Ferrari’s Kimi wins 2009 Belgian F1 GP


In what has to be the most random podium finishes of the season, Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen became the sixth different victor in six races, and his first for 2009, with a closely-raced success in Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix, in which his KERS system played a crucial role in the opening stages. Interestingly, perennial loser Force India came in second, after the team’s Giancarlo Fisichella took pole in qualifying.
