The Volkswagen Scirocco was launched in 2008 as a fashionable alternative to the VW Golf. Though it received many good reviews for its design, the “hatchback-coupe” was always a niche product. VW has now pulled the plug on the Scirocco, with no direct replacement in sight.
It is quite hard to believe that the Volkswagen Scirocco has been in the market for 6 years now without any changes. However, the 2014 Geneva Motor Show next month brings with it an updated Scirocco.
The Volkswagen Scirocco R is exactly like the regular Scirocco 2.0TSI, only with different bumpers, different wheels, two exhaust tips and a whole lot of “R” badges. And also a whole lot more power.
The Volkswagen Scirocco R, the most potent version of VW’s 3-door “coupé” is now on sale in the GCC.
Volkswagen Middle East showed off three new models at the 2011 Dubai Motor Show, destined for showrooms in the UAE and other GCC countries. The first one is the facelifted 2012 VW Tiguan, which has already been on sale for the past month. The second is the VW Scirocco R joining the VW Golf R, finally making its local debut after two years since its European intro. And the third is the VW Amarok, the Argentinian-built pickup that seemingly targets both the poseur-class and the working-class crowds.
Our run with Volkswagens continues, this time with the VW Scirocco 2.0TSI. After driving the VW Golf R, we didn’t expect much from this one, but our time with the car has been pleasantly surprising.
