The Toyota Crown is a long-standing nameplate that is as important as the Camry or Land Cruiser for the Japanese brand. Though the stately sedan did appear on our shores in the past, it could not replicate the success it still enjoys in its homeland. Now, the Crown is going international again, but with a catch. It is not a regal sedan anymore, but some kind of high-riding crossover coupe. Welcome, to the 2023 Toyota Crown.
Toyota Crown is one of the brand’s luxury sedan offerings, below the Century and vaguely alongside the Lexus range. Though the run of the Crown in the Middle East was truncated decades ago, the marque still goes strong in many markets, including Japan and China. In China, the nameplate has now grown into a sub-brand kind of entity as they slapped the Crown logo on two more vehicles — a van and an SUV.
After the arrival of Lexus in the UAE and GCC in the early 90’s, the Toyota Crown was slowly phased out of the market. The Japanese automaker’s flagship sedan continues to be a strong player in their local market however, with the new 2013 Toyota Crown making its debut recently.
