Rolls-Royce’s “entry-level” model, the Ghost has always received its fair share of flak for being a “glorified 7-Series” as it rode on the latter’s platform, even when the Ghost exhibited proper Rolls-Royce traits in the way it rode. Rolls-Royce has now decided to kill that discussion by rebuilding the second-generation 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost from the ground up.
We’ve driven several cookie-cutter BMWs. We’ve tested many Bentleys. But we never brought home a Rolls-Royce. We were saving it for a very special occasion, whatever it might be. However, that special occasion never quite seemed to require actually borrowing a Rolls. So when they themselves called us up and offered us a second-gen Ghost, we simply took it. At least mini-Mash would get to ride in one, even if he won’t remember it when he grows up.
It was in 2009 that the Rolls-Royce Ghost joined the British uber-luxury carmaker’s line-up to finally give some company to the larger Phantom. If it were a lesser brand like BMW, they’d be preparing an all-new model already. But the “new” Ghost Series II has simply received a subtle update for 2015. We spent an entire morning trying to figure out exactly what those changes were, in a media drive around the UAE.
Rolls-Royce launched the Ghost Series II at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show this week. The British luxury carmaker has made minor updates to the Roll-Royce Ghost’s exterior for the Series II, whereas the interior gets more gadgetry to play with.

Rolls-Royce unveiled their most valuable car in history, the Celestial Phantom, at the 2013 Dubai Motor Show. It was made to celebrate the handover of the first Phantom to its owner back in January 2003. Other Rolls-Royce models to make their GCC debut were the Phantom Coupe Chicane, the Alpine Trial Centenary Collection and the Wraith.
Rolls-Royce probably has the record for most special-editions by now, taking the crown from the Ford Mustang in recent years. Here we have three special editions, two of them conceived right here in the UAE.
Rolls-Royce has just confirmed the launch of its next model, essentially a coupe version of the Ghost, dubbed the Rolls-Royce Wraith.
The Rolls-Royce dealer in Abu Dhabi has come up with yet another special-edition model, this time a Rolls-Royce Ghost “honouring legendary Arab inventor Abbas Ibn Firnas, who is most famous for being the first man in history to make scientific attempts at flying.”
Drawing inspiration from Art Deco, the eclectic artistic style of the early 1900s, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars have built and displayed a fleet of Ghost and Phantom cars at the Paris Motor Show 2012.
