According to the Abu Dhabi Police, owners of modified vehicles, even including those who’ve changed only their exhaust system, have been put on notice as part of a new “awareness campaign” that will crack down on aftermarket-tuned cars.
Close to 120 engine-modified vehicles, including both cars and quad bikes, were impounded by Sharjah police, soon after a new rule was implemented by the Ruler of Sharjah, to confiscate any vehicle with modified engines or exhaust systems that create loud noise and disturb neighborhoods. This rule would also apply to vehicles that are registered in other emirates. According to Sharjah Police, the vehicles were seized permanently, and would not be returned to their owners, whatever their conditions may be.
The Abu Dhabi police have announced that over the past 20 days, around 15 cars were impounded for one month, as they were caught speeding at over 200 kph on the motorways linking Abu Dhabi to Dubai and the eastern oasis town of Al Ain.
The Dodge Durango is the latest model to join the Special Service category of vehicles from Dodge, specially designed for use by police and fire departments, and general fleet customers.
