The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is undergoing a dramatic transformation -– opening up its borders to curious tourists and relaxing a lot of rules that were once considered very strict. Vision 2030 as it is known is a plan to reduce the dependence on oil and diversify its economy.
The Dubai International Motor Show is in full swing for 2017, being the venue for various regional launches as usual, but also joining the big leagues by hosting the global debut of at least three all-new 2018 models, namely the Infiniti QX80, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV. There was also the “5000 hp” Devel Sixteen returning in a closer-to-production form as well as local specials such as the GMC Sierra Desert Fox and the MSO-fettled McLaren 720S. On invitation from Jeep, we had the opportunity to check out what is quite possibly the largest annual aftermarket-equipment trade show in the world, where even a few major manufacturers such as Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Hyundai and Chevrolet make an appearance with modified cars, aside from hundreds of privately-owned tuner shops and suppliers.
The North American International Auto Show in Detroit played host to a number of important launches this past week, and we were personally there to witness them. Oddly enough, we were expecting it to be the biggest auto show in the world, but instead found a show half as big as the one we have in Dubai. However, the stands were built up to a much grander scale and the launches were indeed world debuts, hosted by the CEOs of the carmaker themselves. The Specialty Equipment Manufacturer’s Association show in Las Vegas, better known as SEMA, is quite possibly the largest gathering of tuning-focused companies and individuals under one roof, even gaining the attention of mainstream manufacturers nowadays. The Tokyo Motor Show is the top automotive motorshow in Asia, and the 2013 edition kicked off on November 20 with an array of international debuts. Alongside parallel debuts with the L.A.
