There was the 205 that ran from 1983 all the way till 1996. Then there was the 206 in 1998 that was so popular that they kept building it for almost a decade. After that, there was the 207 that no one really noticed. And now for 2013, there is the 208. It was only a matter of time before Peugeot ran out of numbers, so we hear that the 208 name will stay constant from now on. And this new model is a great way to start off the 208 bloodline.
The all-new Peugeot 208 was launched at an event in the UAE. The Art Sawa Gallery in Dubai played host to the 2013 model that will replace the 207, which was apparently a great seller for Peugeot in the GCC.
The last few years may not have been glamorous for Peugeot, considering how they lost sales. But by the looks of it, they seem to be staging a fightback into the hot hatch segment, as they let loose details on the 2013 208 GTi and the equivalent 208 XY variant.
Keeping up with the auto industry’s latest trend of high performance pea-sized cars, Peugeot is almost ready to launch the production-spec 208 GTi. This particular “concept” came hot on the heels of the new Peugeot 208 hatchback, and debuted at the recent 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
The all-new 2012 Peugeot 208 hatch is set to continue the success chronicle of the lion-badged French carmaker in the sub-compact segment. Revealed as the successor to the Peugeot 207, the marque intends to leapfrog ahead of its segment competitors.
