While none of the lap timings set at the German Nurburgring racetrack are officially sanctioned, small-time carmaker Gumpert claims that their new Gumpert Apollo Sport has set a new lap record for a road-legal production car at the track, timed and reported by German magazine Sport-Auto.

A German magazine is reporting that a Porsche Panamera Turbo driven by Porsche test driver Walter Röhrl has lapped the popular Nürburgring race track in 7 minutes 56 seconds, which shaves about three seconds off the record 7 minutes 59.32 seconds time set by the Cadillac CTS-V to claim the title of fastest sedan on the ‘Ring.

Video of the week: Mercedes van on Nurburgring

The abilities of a vehicle are nothing when the driver isn’t up for the challenge. Here is footage of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van working Germany’s famed Nurburgring racetrack. Having driven the Sprinter ourselves, we’d say an empty Sprinter can handle long sweeping turns once up to speed.

Dodge Viper ACR beats Nissan GT-R at 'Ring

Dodge Viper ACR beats Nissan GT-R at ‘Ring

The 2009 Dodge Viper ACR is a lightweight track-ready version of the standard Dodge Viper, complete with adjustable suspension and a slew of aerodynamic add-ons. It is also street-legal, which makes it a fair enough competitor against the Nissan GT-R and the Corvette ZR-1 when it comes to track times at the famed Nurburgring. And the Viper ACR has beaten both of them with a time of 7 minutes 22 seconds.

The new top-rung version of America’s favourite sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, has managed to a pull off a time of 7:26 minutes at Germany’s famed Nurburgring racetrack, driven by a GM development engineer. The ZR1 thereby beats the amazing 7:29 set by the “basic” Nissan GT-R recently (after setting 7:38 on a wet track earlier). However, the ZR1 has a tough battle ahead, as the prototype lightweight Nissan GT-R V-Spec has already been casually timed doing 7:25, while the pricey Lexus LF-A prototype has already pulled off a 7:24. Honda is already testing an NSX prototype,

Prototype GT-R Spec-V beats Carrera GT

Nissan has been testing a quicker prototype version of their new GT-R sports car at the German Nurburgring racetrack. The standard GT-R is already faster than the Porsche 911 Turbo, at 7:38 minutes for one lap, and Nissan had promised to beat the exotic Carrera GT in the future. It appears Nissan has done the unthinkable. The quicker new version, called the GT-R V-Spec, has been casually timed at 7:25 minutes.

Porsche gets behind kicked by Lexus

Porsche gets behind kicked by Lexus

I was highlighting some time ago how the 2009 Nissan GT-R outran many high-dollar exotics at the Nurburgring racetrack in Germany, with a time of 7:38 minutes, better than the Porsche 911 Turbo and the overhyped Audi R8. However, the pricier Porsche 911 GT2 is even faster, at 7:32 minutes. But another upcoming Japanese car is already running circles around it. The prototype Lexus LF-A posted a time of 7:24 minutes, in full camouflage no less.
