After dawdling around for years with an outdated product, Mitsubishi finally updated the Outlander with a completely new generation vehicle and a third row of seats. Built in partnership with Nissan, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander looks quite good and it may just be the lifeline the crossover needs to stay relevant.
The new 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander was revealed at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. A completely new redesign which ditches the Lancer-inspired front fascia, the Outlander now has the looks to be a major player in the seven-seater segment.
The Mitsubishi Outlander is a forgotten player in the compact crossover segment. Mitsubishi even claims that they coined the term “crossover” although they are arguably not the inventors of the crossover. Still, the Outlander has been completely redesigned for the 2013 model year.
Nissan and Mitsubishi has announced that the two companies agreed to “expand their current scope of co-operation towards new projects that will further strengthen mutual competitiveness.” Apparently this deal will lead to a new Nissan model provided by Mitsubishi.
The Mitsubishi Outlander underwent a full redesign only a couple of years ago, becoming a competitive compact crossover with an attractive new face. Then designers decided to plaster a Lancer Evo face onto the likeable 4×4’s front-end, and that facelifted version has been launched as a 2010 model in many countries. But the Japanese were not tired of the outgoing Outlander yet, and so Mitsubishi is still offering the older version, alongside an aggressive version of the new face.
The production version of the new 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander is starting to trickle into worldwide markets, with more photos becoming available. It has already been revealed in Australia and now the United States. A UAE debut seems to be on the cards by early next year.
Mitsubishi’s Australian division is the one to announce the redesign of the 2010 Outlander, featuring a new nose that mimics that of the Lancer Evo for no apparent reason.
