Mini Clubman

BMW’s little sub-brand Mini has been catching a lot of flak lately for, well, not being so mini any more. Having driven every “new” Mini for the past decade, we can attest to the fact that they’ve been growing, but it’s also become more refined and practical as time went on. Of course, there’s a limit to how much space you can get out of a 3-door hatchback, so a few years ago, BMW had the bright idea to turn Mini into an entire range of cars that aren’t so small any more. Small van-like vehicles with two seats up front, a partition behind the cockpit and a flat load floor in the back are popular in Europe, for small businesses and what not. It seems Mini wants in on the action, converting the slow-selling Clubman into a car for the working man. And they’ve cleverly named it the Clubvan.

The entire existing Mini range has been facelifted for the 2011 model year, including the Convertible and the Clubman. Available from September in Europe, the changes relevant to the GCC are cosmetic only, as the petrol engines are carried over unchanged.

The BMW-owned Mini brand is celebrating its 50th anniversary by launching a pair of Mini Cooper models to commemorate the milestone. Dubbed the 50 Mayfair and the 50 Camden, Mini launched the limited-edition models at the marque’s 50th birthday party at the United Festival at Silverstone in Britain.
