The minivan segment may be dying, but there are quite a few players trying to keep it alive. Honda, Chrysler and Kia offer the only mainstream ones in the GCC. Toyota does a jurassic-era fleet-spec one. BMW and Opel offer a couple of poorly-received ones. And then there is Mercedes-Benz, who have converted a commercial van into a luxury people-carrier, much like what Volkswagen did with their Transporter Multivan.
Mercedes-Benz debuted the redone 2017 V-Class van in the UAE and GCC late last year, but the increasingly-mainstream German carmaker is going further in the European market with the new V-Class Marco Polo Horizon model.
The MPV segment in general is quite bland. Yes, they are filled with features and with value-for-money spewing out of them and it is quite hard to disagree why a family wouldn’t prefer it. But with reports flowing in that BMW is in the works for a new MPV, their German counterpart, Mercedes-Benz have come up with arguably the best looking Multi-Purpose-Vehicle to date.
