We snagged an invite to the 2013 edition of Jeep Jamboree Dubai in early January, a dealer-organised event open to all Jeep owners in the country. We went to the Jamboree a year go as well, all of it a desert drive with a dealer-provided five-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, so we figured this year would be the same. But they threw a few surprises at us in the form of a mixed wadi-desert combination, that too with a smaller three-door Jeep Wrangler.

So if you thought that the crazy automobile recall saga had ended, you were wrong. Since our last post on the recalls earlier this year, there were an insane amount of recalls that followed, from almost every car manufacturer in the world you can ever think of, almost all of them being issued following instructions from the U.S.-based NHTSA agency. Jeep Grand Cherokee moose-test rollover controversy explained


Earlier this month, a little-known Swedish magazine called Teknikens Värld (Technology World) released a video of their “moose test” for the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, essentially an emergency lane-change manoeuvre, where the Jeep almost rolled over. Since then, there has been a public back-and-forth between the Swedes and the Americans over the issue.

So we got a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited


Our first encounter with the Pentastar-engined 2012 Jeep Wrangler was around the time it was launched in the UAE, where we were given a car and thrown into the desert wilderness. In that trial-by-fire, we made our way out in one piece, all by ourselves, without ever getting stuck, and navigating with visual clues rather than by GPS. This time, our car does have GPS, although we’re just soaking in what it feels like in an urban environment.
