Jaguar is one of the few brands that often sets up track days for potential as well as existing customers, to show a side of their cars that wouldn’t be apparent in a regular test-drive. Their latest event was held at the Yas Marina circuit a couple of months ago, and the media was invited to have a go at their range of cars as well.
The Jaguar F-Type seems to just keep getting better. First they give us the F-Type Convertible with that insane exhaust note, then they increased the oomph factor with the coupe, and now they give us a manual gearbox. Other updates for 2016 include all-wheel drive options for the V6, power upgrade for the V8 convertible and more standard equipment.
Jaguar have just announced the F-Type Coupe will come in all-wheel drive as well from next year. It will make its official debut at the 2014 LA Auto Show this month.
Our Jaguar XK’s flying along just fine since the last update, having completed one year of ownership. We’re always discovering new things about the car, especially since, like most people, we haven’t bothered reading the manual. Stuff like the valet mode to stop random people snooping in your boot and glovebox, and the screws in the carpeted cargo area that double as hangers for grocery bags. Aside from door dings by douches and occasional selfie-takers leaning on the car, we had to deal with two other pending wear-and-tear issues that we inherited when we got the car.
Jaguar have revealed the XE in London ahead of its full official debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The XE brings the return for Jaguar in the premium compact sedan segment and will go against the likes of BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
Truth be told, we’ve become a bit bored with super-sedans nowadays. They look like their cheaper brethren, with a few subtle styling tweaks that only nerds notice, while packing a big motor whose power you cannot use anywhere legally. Big deal. We like the way Jaguar did it though — the XFR-S styling tweaks are a little more aggressive than the norm, while the motor makes all sorts of real supercar noises, even when parked. Eat your heart out, BMW.
Last week we did a list of the top cars researched by our readers this Ramadan. This week we take a look at the top ten luxury cars that are in consideration by our more affluent visitors. These figures were pulled from our internal stats, with a heavy UAE bias since most of our traffic is from our home-base. We’ve also stuck to only true luxury brands, rather than fit in luxury cars from mainstream brands.
The upcoming Jaguar XE entry-level premium sedan and the next-generation Land Rover Discovery will highlight the British carmaker’s growth over the next few years, according to the new Middle East managing director, Bruce Robertson.
Jaguar is keen to promote the F-Type as their new hero of the line-up, its position further solidified by the news that the long-running Jaguar XK is going to end production by this summer, with no replacement planned anytime soon. However, as big of an improvement as the F-Type is as a sports car, it is missing the main reason that I bought the XK for: cargo space.
