Quirkiness was the Hyundai Veloster’s signature dish. The first generation of the Korean hatch was acclaimed for the bold 1-door-on-one-side and 2-on-the-other design. Fast forward 7 years, and a second generation has been unveiled at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show which carries over the same level of eccentricity but in an even more impressive package that includes a very hot Veloster N.
We’ve been hyped about this car from way back in 2012, when we heard it hit the American market. A turbo hot-hatch from Hyundai? That’s a recipe for some cheap fun! Here we were, expecting it to give the brilliant Ford Focus ST a run for its money. But then, the Hyundai Veloster Turbo actually came here, three years late to the party, and we drove it.

Hyundai’s Middle East office has officially launched the 2014 Hyundai Tucson crossover in the GCC, during the opening ceremony of its new Africa & Middle East Training Academy, the company’s first such dedicated training facility in Dubai. The Hyundai Veloster is probably the weirdest modern car on sale today. Aside from the fact that it looks spectacularly flashy, it has one more trick up its sleeve. Or rather, three.
The Hyundai Veloster is in the news again. After gaining so much popularity for its quirky design, Hyundai’s 3-door youth car was fast diminishing from the spotlight for obvious reasons. Highly underpowered for a supposed sporty car, the Veloster is powered by a naturally-aspirated 138 hp 1.6-litre with direct injection. Even better, the GCC were given a 130 hp version of the same engine, minus the direct injection. But for some at least, Hyundai has addressed the issue with a turbo now.
Hyundai is the talk of the town these days. Having rolled out several new models in a seemingly short span of time, all so well engineered, well designed and well priced, Hyundai has already caused quite a stir in the market dominated by the Japanese giants. And the increasing damage they are continuing to cause the Japanese monopoly is evident from the shaken chiefs of some major Japanese automakers stepping into the limelight themselves for praising their own upcoming models, in a sad bid to counter competition.
