Honda has been busy trying new things lately, and while we may never see the fruits of their labour when it comes to the NSX or the Type-R, we are now getting a base version of the latest Honda Civic with a 1.6-litre engine. Spec it up for a few bucks though, and it’s hard to tell it apart from the 2.0-litre version.

2017 Honda Civic 1.6 debuts in UAE and GCC

Honda has launched a base variant of the 2017 Civic with an all-new 1.6L engine. To be offered in the GCC, Lebanon and Jordan, the 1.6-litre Honda Civic comes in two grades, namely DX and LX, and clearly aims to grab some market share from significantly-cheaper rivals. The 2016 Civic which was launched in April this year in 2.0-litre n/a and 1.5-litre turbo forms, leading to an 86% increase in yearly Civic sales at a time when every other compact sedan has seen crashing sales due to the economic slowdown.

Honda Civic Hatchback 2017 may be offered worldwide

The prototype of the hot Civic hatchback is being showcased in the 2016 New York Auto Show following its preview at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The hatchback is the third body-style of the 10th-generation Honda Civic, after the sedan and the coupe. While nothing is confirmed for other markets, the fact that a hatchback model is finally being offered in the U.S. and Europe may mean that it could come to the GCC as well, as some sort of worldwide model. A Type-R version of this has already been spotted testing. We can always hope.
