So we got a 2016 Volvo V60 Polestar

So we got a 2016 Volvo V60 Polestar

We’ve never been fans of wagons. Wagon-love is only a thing among bloggers who claim to be car enthusiasts, yet drive about in boring cars that are not wagons. The idea of unassuming powerful wagons is cute as well, but doesn’t work in a flamboyant market such as ours, where looks are everything and power cannot be used anywhere. However, this Volvo V60 Polestar has caught our fancy in a big way.

So we got a 2015 Ford Mustang GT 5.0

So we got a 2015 Ford Mustang GT 5.0

The previous-generation Mustang, despite all its flaws, was about as perfect as you could make a muscle-car design. So when the new-gen Mustang was unveiled, it caused quite a stir due to its polarising styling — you either loved it or didn’t love it. Nobody hated it though. What the Mustang had become is a more traditionally-stylish coupe, with a billion improvements under the skin.

First drive: 2016 McLaren 675LT in the UAE

The McLaren 675LT is the limited-edition “Long Tail” version of the 650S, featuring lighter weight, more power and extra-aggressive styling. With only 500 being built in this coupe form, the car already sold out within months of its debut this summer. So it came as a surprise that McLaren offered us an all-too-brief test-drive with one.

So we got a 2015 Infiniti Q50 S

So we got a 2015 Infiniti Q50 S

If there is such a thing as a start-up among luxury car brands, Infiniti would be one of them. Created at around the same time as Lexus a quarter of a century ago, Infiniti never really made an impact on the automotive landscape until about a decade ago. Since then, there have been a few somewhat interesting cars, and many that were mistaken for just warmed-over versions of Nissans. And then there was that whole naming-system change. The new Infiniti Q50 is the only actual new model that isn’t just a ‘Q’ rebadge of an old model. It’s been out for more than a year,

Car servicing outside dealer will not void warranty in UAE soon

Here’s some good news for car owners in the UAE. The Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection at the Ministry of Economy has recommended that the warranty of vehicles shouldn’t be affected irrespective of where the vehicle is serviced. That means owners of new cars will soon be able to service their cars at any garage instead of getting ripped off by the dealer, without voiding the warranty.

First drive: 2016 Honda Pilot in the UAE

Honda is better known as a maker of Civics and Accords nowadays, and anyone other than Honda salesmen will have a tough time trying to remember if they sell anything else. However, they do offer a midsize 4×4 called the Pilot, a model that had been chugging along virtually unchanged since the last recession. It wasn’t particularly good at anything either, so we were keen to see how Honda has gone about bringing the all-new 2016 Pilot bang up to date in our all-too-brief time with the car.

First drive: 2016 Nissan Patrol Desert Edition in Liwa UAE

The Nissan Patrol is probably the first proper car in the history of the world to be designed specifically for the Gulf, right from the design stage. How else would you explain its massive size, its V8-only engine choices, its ample space and its overkill of a/c vents all the way to the third-row seats. We’ve already reviewed the regular Nissan Patrol, so we’ll jump straight into what makes this latest version unique — the Nissan Patrol Desert Edition, brought to you by local rally legend Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

Long-term update: Jaguar XK service and parts costs

Long-term update: Jaguar XK service and parts costs

Our Jaguar XK went in for its annual service the other day. We generally take our car in only once a year because we do maybe 4,000 km per year with this car, and modern synthetic oils can last that long without any ill effects, despite what your dealer or your great-granddad told you. Here’s an idea of what the regular cost of running a Jaguar XK looks like.
