The heavily-revised 2011 Dodge Charger and the totally-new 2011 Dodge Durango were launched in the UAE, at a media event held in the underground parking lot of the Festival City Mall in Dubai, followed by a free premiere screening of The Fast & The Furious 5 movie, which prominently features the new Charger.
The 2011 Ford Mustang GT, the 2010 Dodge Challenger and the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS all have three things in common. All three are retro-styled Americans, all three are V8-powered muscle cars, and all three have more than 400 horses. Each. This comparo has been a long time coming. Everyone else has already done their armchair evaluations, simply comparing manufacturer figures, snapping a few photos and calling it a day. It took us a spread of six months to be able to drive all three of these direct competitors. We have neither the time nor the resources to pull in all three cars together.
Dodge has revealed the 2011 Durango Heat in the 2011 Chicago Auto Show. It is based on the Durango R/T. The R/T gets a V8 engine and the Heat is powered by a V6. Both pretty much look the same.
Dodge showed off the new 2012 Charger SRT8 at the Chicago Auto Show. Under the hood, the new 6.4-liter HEMI V8 offers more horsepower and torque than the old 6.1-litre HEMI V8. It will also have improved fuel efficiency.
The recalls were piling in hard and fast during this year. While we kept up with most of the ones which could’ve potentially affected car owners in the Middle East, we simply stopped keeping track around two months ago, because it became interminably boring writing up repetitive “recall” stories. However, we have a duty to at least highlight the ones which could matter, so here is a rundown of all the recalls in the last 60 days, most issued in the U.S. but which may also affect some GCC-spec cars. This right here is the largest vehicle we’ve ever driven on the streets of Dubai. Or rather, we stuck to the highways and avoided the streets. Consider the fact that this Dodge Ram is two feet longer than the gigantic Toyota Sequoia, and you get an idea of how big this thing is.
Chrysler is on a bit of a roll, upgrading the interiors on almost all their existing models in a bit to improve their image as well as sales. The latest model to benefit is the 2011 Dodge Avenger midsize sedan, which also receives a new engine option.
While we just about managed to test the 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8 recently, Chrysler has already released initial info on the 2011 Challenger SRT8, now to be fitted with a 6.4-litre V8.
First photos and information about the updated 2011 Dodge Charger has been released, including a police version that will debut in the next The Fast and The Furious movie.
The Dodge Challenger SRT8 has been out in the UAE since last year. A facelifted version may already be on the way by the end of this year. And some nincompoop magazines had already ripped up the rear tyres on our tester. But hot damnit it is still an awesome car.
