Nissan unveiled the Z Proto concept today, as the Japanese carmaker finally prepares to launch a replacement for the 370Z sports car. Shown at a virtual event hosted at the Nissan Pavilion in Yokohama, the prototype car features a new retro-themed design inside and out, as well as a V6 twin-turbocharged engine with a manual transmission.
The Jeep Wagoneer is a completely unknown entity in the Middle East, but to baby boomers in the United States, it is a name as well-known as the Wrangler. It was a classic 5-door SUV that debuted in 1962 and somehow carried on largely unchanged till 1991! It was replaced by the modern-at-the-time 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and while the current Grand Cherokee itself is stagnating with minor updates for the past decade, there is an all-new Wagoneer range of models on the way, as previewed by the full-size Jeep Grand Wagoneer concept that debuted today.
Lucid Motors, a new maker of luxury EVs set to compete with Tesla, has announced a range of 832 km on a single charge for its forthcoming Lucid Air all-electric sedan, far higher than its rival, the Tesla Model S.
BMW is toying around with the idea of fitting extreme grilles to its new cars in a bid to make their cars look more distinctive and somehow more premium, starting with the large kidney grille on the X7 and 7-series. For those who did not like it, there’s more bad news. The BMW Concept 4 gets unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt Motors show which hints at the design of the next gen 4-Series and M4 coupes. And guess what, it’s got a large grille too.
Electrification was the overriding theme at this year’s Frankfurt motor show, and virtually every brand represented (there were far fewer this year) headlined their presentation with one or more battery-powered offerings.
Mercedes-Benz has used this week’s Geneva motor show to roll out five world premieres, ranging from the sub-compact CLA Shooting Brake to a roadster version of the thunderous AMG GT R. It’s also the last motor show appearance for long-standing company chairman Dr Dieter Zetsche, who will step down in May to make way for current board member Ola Källenius as his successor.
The Range Rover SV Coupe, which was to be a limited-edition expensive version of the regular Range Rover, has been canceled before a single example has been built.
Sporting a gorgeous silhouette, the BMW 8-Series Concept debuted at the 2017 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Minus a few details, the concept should pretty much represent the production BMW 8-Series that is expected to hit markets in 2018. Resurrecting the “8-Series” moniker, an M8 version has also already been announced, with the prototype shown at the ‘Ring.
The awkwardly-profiled Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class sedan has been successfully serving as an entry point to the three-pointed star family for a while now. At the 2017 Auto Shanghai, Mercedes-Benz previewed a new idea for a model, the Concept A sedan, which is based on the A-Class and may hint at the future design direction of the A/CLA/GLA trio.
As the fate of the much-loved FJ Cruiser is sealed, Toyota’s lineup required a funky SUV to fill its shoes in when it’s gone (possibly in 2018). A very likely candidate for that job is being displayed in concept guise at the 2017 New York Auto Show. The Toyota FT-4X takes its design inspiration from the FJ Cruiser as well as the original Land Cruiser and then blends it with contemporary elements. However, it is a much smaller crossover!
