Even though the name Bentley is synonymous with massive luxobarges that are filled to the brim with wood and cowhide, there always existed a “Speed” model that pushes the performance envelope of the heavy Bentley, making it go as fast as it possibly can. After more than a decade with just mild updates, an all-new Bentley Continental GT is upon us. We don’t mean to sound snooty, but we had driven different variations of the old model so many times (and Bentley was generous with new test cars annually) that at some point, we just stopped taking them because we couldn’t find much new to write about them. Yep, we said no to Bentleys. It was an excellent car, and we almost bought one for our long-term fleet years ago, but it felt like we had enough of it already. The new one changes all that with one major redesign.
The all-new Bentley Continental GT has been teasing us for a while now by making numerous partially camouflaged appearances around the world. But now Bentley has uncovered it fully. The all-new 2018 Bentley Continental GT has shown its face, ahead of its launch at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
With an all new model right around the corner, Bentley has given the Continental GT a proper sent off with a completely new variant. This final version of the Continental is named the Supersports and it is the fastest 4-seater car available in the market right now. Bentley is also offering a droptop version.
The other day we were reminiscing about the first time we drove the Bentley Continental GT. It was the Speed variant, and the year was 2008. The GT had already been around for four years at that point, and the Speed was recently launched as a flagship model to keep the line fresh. We took it straight to Jebel Hafeet for our first ever run on that mountain, close to midnight, and it proved to be an amazing car.
The 2016 Bentley Continental GT facelift has gone on sale in the UAE. The new model gets design updates and features, along with a power upgrade for the 12-cylinder model.

The other day I had the misfortune of coming across a self-aggrandising comics-worshipping nincompoop who ran his own video-game blog that no one ever heard of, jabbering about which cars are good and which aren’t, because of his vast experience with Playstation racing games and taking “selfies” with other people’s cars. I generally walk away from pointless arguments with “progressive” hipsters nowadays, but if I had told this armchair-racing expert that the Bentley Continental GT V8 S is better than the much pricier GT Speed model, he’d have a hissy fit!
Another month, another Bentley. This GTC V8 is the fifth variant of the updated Bentley Continental GT we’ve driven in the past 18 months, and heck, it never gets old.
