The Audi Q5 isn’t particularly common in the GCC, but it is currently the VW-owned carmaker’s top-selling model worldwide. It still sold around a healthy 280,000 units in its final year, and 1.6 million in total since its inception in 2009. As it remains hugely popular, just like the A4, Audi has gone for evolution, rather than revolution, when it comes to the exterior. The Audi Q5 has been around externally unchanged since late 2008. That’s an eternity in car years, but the German carmaker has been keeping the line-up fresh with new engine options and trim levels. One of those is the SQ5, which is the quickest version of the Q5 you can currently get. It’s a little late in the year to test an outgoing model, considering our more “prominent journalists” have already driven the all-new Q5 model in Europe recently, but this is actually our first time behind the wheel of any Q5.

Every year, Wörthersee in Austria plays host to the GTI meet, where VW and Audi fanboys come together from all over Europe. Audi has setup its own stand at this event. The brand’s appearance at the 28th Wörthersee Tour, running May 20-23 this year, is dedicated to the centennial “100 years of Audi” celebration. As a special highlight for the event at Wörthersee, Audi has prepared a customised Audi Q5 with 21-inch wheels, wider track, lowered ride height, a special paint finish and a tuned 3.0 TFSI engine, calling it the Audi Q5 custom concept.
