Volkswagen has done well with the Tiguan -– sales of more than 2.8 million examples globally since its 2007 launch is reflective of that –- but there’s no denying it was getting long in the tooth against a horde of fresher rivals. Consider this: there are now three times as many contenders in the compact crossover segment as there were when the first Tiguan debuted. It was clearly time for a change, and the second-gen Tiguan, which goes on sale in our market from September onwards, represents exactly that. It genuinely is an ‘all-new’ vehicle, using as its basis the hugely-flexible MQB architecture that underpins everything from the latest VW Golf to the third-gen Audi TT.

2016 Middle East Car of the Year winners

The 2016 Middle East Car Of the Year (MECOTY) awards ceremony was held last week with the results being announced during the reborn 2016 Abu Dhabi Motor Show and Custom Show Emirates that are running concurrently in Abu Dhabi. The final winners were decided by totalling the scores of a jury panel from 12 different publications around the Middle East, including DriveArabia.com’s tiny contribution. Individual awards were given to cars according to their categories, with the main 2016 Middle East Car Of The Year award going to the Volvo XC90, and the winner by public voting being the Audi Q7.

We’ve driven the 2006 Range Rover. We’ve driven the 2010 Range Rover. Heck, we own a 2005 Range Rover. We’ve also driven all the smaller iterations of the Range Rover that have cropped up in the past decade, namely the Sport and the Evoque.
