Ford Shelby GT500 quicker than Audi R8 V10


Ford has just released a video purportedly showing their upgraded 2011 Shelby GT500 doing a lap of some 4.1-mile (6.56 km) Grand West portion of the Virginia International Speedway racetrack. It achieved a lap time of 2:58.5, which in itself wouldn’t mean much, except that the Audi R8 V10 did it in 2:59.5 during another test. If there ever was proof that the Audi R8 is an overrated beluga whale, this is it.

Switzer R911S GT2 shows up Porsche


Almost as if to spite the German manufacturer, U.S. tuning firm Switzer sends out a release claiming that their R911S package already offers a power-to-weight ratio which simply “eviscerates” Porsche’s newest factory flagship, the new-for-2011 911 GT2 RS. Switzer also offers the R911S Carbon, a suite of lightweight carbon-fibre body panels that sheds more weight.

BMW launches hybrid X6 and 7-Series in the GCC


BMW has launched two high-end hybrid models in the GCC, based on the X6 and the 7-Series, and both with equally long names. One is the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 and the other is the BMW ActiveHybrid 7. After a few false starts by Chevrolet, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz, these are likely the first true hybrid vehicles to be commercially available in the UAE. And we are assuming they are expensive.
