Long-term wrap-up: 2009 Renault Safrane V6 gets sold


Our fleet swap-over for this year is finally complete with the sale of our 2009 Renault Safrane V6 to a friend. My father had left it behind when he retired earlier this year and got shipped back to the homeland, and so the car wasn’t really getting driven much any more, once we bought more interesting machinery. Still, it’s a fine car that we’ll recommend to anybody looking for cheap transportation. We’d even go as far as to say that it’s a more “honest” car than the new Safrane that replaced it, and an even better deal now that it’s out of warranty and you could get it maintained elsewhere instead the dealer.

College projects can be fun, especially if you’re the privileged ones to join hands with Mazda to create a one off concept. And that is why we envy this Mazda Deep Orange 3 Concept Car, built by Clemson University automotive engineering students. The neat piece of design was compiled by Frederick Naaman from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.

So if you thought that every car manufacturer was going the ‘Ford Explorer’ way when it came to overhauling their existing midsize SUVs, you’d be wrong. There are a few manufacturers who decided to try the opposite route, taking a step backwards by choosing to transform a commercial pick-up into a four-wheel-drive wagon in a half-hearted bid to create a viable replacement for their already-cancelled midsize SUV. So what was essentially competing with the refined Toyota Prado, now tries to go after the simplistic Toyota Fortuner. That new wagon is none other than the all-new Thailand-built 2013 Chevrolet Trailblazer.
