Road Test: 2025 Chery Tiggo 9

The Chery Tiggo 9 has recently debuted in the UAE market, positioning itself as a formidable contender in the mid-size SUV segment. With its blend of contemporary design, advanced technology, and versatile performance, the Tiggo 9 aims to cater to families and individuals seeking comfort and functionality.

Exterior Design

The Tiggo 9’s exterior showcases a modern aesthetic. It features a prominent diamond-shaped embossed front grille adorned with the Chery emblem, sleek LED headlights, and a streamlined profile.

The SUV’s dimensions are 4,820 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,710 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, providing a substantial road presence. 

Interior and Features

Inside, the Tiggo 9 offers a spacious cabin with a three-row seating configuration, accommodating up to seven passengers. The interior is appointed with high-quality materials, including leatherette and aluminium trims, enhancing the overall sense of luxury.

A panoramic sunroof and customizable ambient lighting create an airy and personalized atmosphere. The rear seats are designed for convenience, with auto-folding capabilities that can make a flat loading space, expanding the cargo area as needed. 

The front passenger seat also has an almost lay-flat function, where the seat reclines to a nearly horizontal position. 

Entry to the third row is straightforward, and the second-row seat moves forward at the click of a button. While adults can sit, it is not recommended for people taller than five and a half feet on long journeys. 

Cherry Tiggo 9 Performance and Powertrain

The Tiggo 9’s 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine delivers 261 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. This powertrain is paired with an ASIN eight-speed automatic transmission, offering smooth and responsive gear shifts.

The SUV is available in all-wheel-drive with various drive modes. Its top speed is 205 kph, and its combined fuel consumption is approximately 7.5 litres per 100 km, making it a balanced choice for city commuting and highway cruising. 

Driving Performance and Ride Quality

On the road, the Chery Tiggo 9 delivers a well-rounded driving experience. The 2.0-litre turbo engine provides ample power for city driving and highway overtakes. The steering is light and responsive, making manoeuvring easy despite the SUV’s size. However, the steering stiffness can also be configured if some users feel it is too light.

The suspension setup, featuring MacPherson struts in the front and a multi-link rear, balances comfort and stability. Ride quality is commendable, absorbing road imperfections well, even on the more prominent 19-inch wheels on higher trims. Road noise is well-controlled, enhancing cabin comfort during long drives.

Chery Tiggo 9 Technology and Safety

The Tiggo 9 features modern technologies to enhance convenience and safety. Its dual-screen setup comprises a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch central infotainment display, both powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip for swift performance.

The infotainment system supports smartphone integration, ensuring seamless connectivity on the go. One of my favourite features is the phone left on the wireless charger alert when you switch off the car. I have left my phone in the car countless times, only to remember much later, and this feature certainly solved that!

On the safety front, the SUV has 13 advanced driver-assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, front collision alert, auto-breaking and a 360-degree camera system, which provides comprehensive assistance during journeys.
