2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross gets extensive facelift

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross created a stir when the crossover was launched with the name of the legendary sports car on it. The world seems to have forgotten the rage though, as the Eclipse Cross is still around, rounding out Mitsubishi’s SUV-heavy line-up. Now there is a 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross that improves on the ho-hum original.

Mitsubishi has polished up the “coupe-like” crossover’s design. The front gets a blacked-out grill and new front bumper guard, as per the lines dictated by Mitsubishi’s signature “Dynamic Shield” design language.

The most drastic of all the changes comes at the rear. The tail lamps and the rear window get a thorough revision to improve visibility. The full-width tail lamps are done away with, leaving more room for a bigger glass area.

New black and silver trim spice up the interior of the 2022 Eclipse Cross. The layout of the dashboard changes a bit to position the 8-inch infotainment system closer to the driver and front passenger. The touchpad goes out in favour of more tactile buttons and knobs.

The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross carries over the same 1.5-litre GDi turbocharged engine. The power output of 148 hp remains unchanged as well. Mitsubishi plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid variant in some select markets soon.

The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross goes on sale first in Australia and New Zealand by the next month. We expect the refreshed crossover to reach our shores in early 2021.
