2019 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera debuts as new flagship

Aston Martin’s lineup receives a new flagship in the form of the 2019 DBS Superleggera. This good-looking machine builds on the DB11’s architecture and replaces the outgoing flagship, the Vanquish S.

Oddly given an Italian name made popular by Lamborghini, the quintessential Aston Martin design is retained but with a lot more flair that fits its flagship stature. The body panels are sculpted out of carbon fibre, helping it to cut down weight while it increases the aerodynamic and cooling efficiency of the car. It uses aero-tech like Curlicue and Aeroblade from the DB11 as well as an F1-inspired double-diffuser. All this means that the DBS Superleggera now produces 180 kilos of downforce, more than any other series production Aston Martin in history.

Based on an updated version of the lightweight aluminium structure used to build the DB11, the DBS Superleggera uses forged double wishbones at the front and a multi-link layout at the rear. It also comes with adaptive damping.

The DBS Superleggera uses a rear mounted 5.2-litre V12 biturbo engine that generates 715 hp and 900 Nm, accelerating it from 0 to 100 in just 3.4 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to “just” 340 kph. All this power is handled by a ZF developed 8-speed automatic gearbox. To control this power better, three driving modes — GT, Sport, and Sport Plus — are offered.

The 2019 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera will hit showrooms by the end of this year.
