Skoda Kamiq latest SUV in lineup

Skoda Kamiq latest SUV in lineup

Finding a slot under the Karoq SUV, Skoda released a new crossover in Beijing to fill it. Named Skoda Kamiq, this compact SUV is here to eat into a fruitful market that’s already being shared between a plethora of models from different companies. But as of now, the Kamiq will go on sale in just the Chinese market.

The styling of the Kamiq reflects the design of the bigger Kodiaq and Karoq with squared lines around the body. The headlights, larger by proportion, gels with the signature vertical Skoda grill well. At the rear, there are subtle differences that give the little crossover a somewhat distinct identity. Inside, it’s all Skoda. Clean lines and simplistic layout makes it ergonomically easy to use.

The engine details are not out yet, but the 1.5-litre gasoline engine featured in the Chinese Rapid sedan seems a strong contender. The vehicle is also expected to ride on the PQ platform of the Rapid.

We are not sure if the Skoda Kamiq will be sold in markets outside China such as the UAE or other GCC countries as it is built on one of the brand’s older platforms. A new crossover, based on the Vision X concept released in Geneva last month and built on VW Group’s latest MQB, is in the works though.
