2019 Audi RS5 Sportback revealed in New York
Audi’s A7 Sportback and it’s mental bigger brother RS7 were two niche products that attracted a lot of acclaim for their design. The success of the RS7 has now led Audi to shrink it a bit and reveal the all-new Audi RS5 Sportback.
The RS5 Sportback builds on the rather handsome RS5 coupe. The Sportback is not much longer than the Coupe model but it sits 7 mm lower than the 2-door version. It is wider at the hips by 15 mm on either side. Larger intakes, bigger wheels and more importantly, the sloping roof make the RS5 Sportback more muscular.
Inside, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit display dominates the dashboard. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard.
Powering the RS5 Sportback is the same 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 from the Coupe and it is good for a very healthy 444 hp. It also creates 600 Nm of torque all of which is handled by an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. This setup is powerful enough to propel the RS5 from 0-100 kph in just over 4 seconds.
A few will probably make its way to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC markets. The RS models are usually on special order in this region.
