Toyota FJ Cruiser Final Edition

Toyota FJ Cruiser Final Edition to finally bid farewell to offroad legend

Update: The Toyota FJ Cruiser is still on sale in the UAE and GCC as of 2019!

The FJ Cruiser has been around for a decade now. The quirky body and the out-of-the-box retro styling has given it a special place in the market (and our garage). After two false alarms when the FJ exited the US and Australian markets in 2014 and 2016 respectively, it is really time to say goodbye as Toyota has prepared a fitting farewell called the FJ Cruiser Final Edition for the Japanese market only.

Toyota has finished the body of the final edition in a shade of Beige that seeps into the cabin. On the exterior, the FJ Final Edition sports unique side steps, and bespoke 20-inch alloys. A parking mirror juts out of the front fender, which is still a thing in Japan it seems.

Under the hood, the familiar 4.0-litre petrol V6 engine will remain on duty. It comes hooked up to a five-speed auto gearbox that splits the power to both the front and rear axles.

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is definitely on its way out but the automotive world believes that a successor is going to surface sometime in the future. It may be based on the much-smaller FT-4X concept crossover showcased at the 2017 New York Auto Show. But in contrast to that, Toyota has hinted that a direct successor for the FJ is not in the cards. Only time will tell.

The final FJ Cruiser took the limelight at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show along with the new Land Cruiser Prado and the “Invincible 50” Hilux pickup.

Remind us to write a full road test of our own manual FJ in the meantime. Having finally taken it offroad, we found it unbelievably good on the sand, better than even the Jeep Wrangler and the Nissan Xterra.
