Subaru BRZ tS debuts without expected turbo
After the WRX STI Type RA, Subaru has given their BRZ sports coupe a performance update. The special model, called the BRZ tS and seen in this solitary photo, comes with an array of performance upgrades. But contrary to expectations, there is no turbocharging. The 2.0-litre boxer engine will continue its duty in the tS.
Out of the performance updates, the massive STI-designed carbon-fibre wing is the most obvious. This wing can be adjusted manually by the driver according to the conditions. Other aerodynamic aids like the underspoilers at the front, rear, and the sides assist the wing.
A new set of 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels shod with 215/40 R18 Michelin Pilot Sport rubber is fitted on to the new BRZ tS. To put a rein on the pace, the tS is equipped with Brembo brakes both front and back. A host of suspension upgrades is also a part of this package which includes SACHS dampers and coil springs altered by STI and flexible V-braces in the engine bay. The chassis and subframe are made more taut by adding stiffeners.
The visual updates on the BRZ tS are along similar lines to the WRX STI Type RA, with red accents littered around the car. Custom badges around the car give the tS a distinct identity. The fog light covers up front are also bespoke for the tS. The body can be finished in three hues, namely WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Blck Silica and Crystal White Pearl.
Inside, black Alcantara and leather are used. Red stitching highlights brighten up the black interior. The tS also has special gauge cluster, door trim and red seat belts. The “tS” logo is embroidered onto the seatbacks.
Just like the Type RA WRX STI, production of the BRZ tS will also be limited to 500 units. Hitting other markets in the first quarter of 2018, the BRZ tS is not expected to be offered in the UAE and GCC.
