BMW 9-Series could be the new flagship
As the discussions regarding whether the BMW 8-Series will replace the 6-Series is heating up, reports indicate that the German luxury brand might be developing a new 9-series sedan. It will be based on the existing 7-series but will be longer and more opulent. The Vision Future Luxury Concept that BMW unveiled at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show is believed to be what the new sedan will be based on. If it makes into production, the 9-Series will be pitted squarely against the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.
Most probably, the 9-Series will use the same engines available in the 7-Series. The 6.6-litre V12 petrol motor is the most probable and anticipated choice. It is currently available in the M760Li in which it makes 600 hp of power and 800 Nm of torque. A hybrid is also expected.
The 9-series, if it happens, could arrive by 2020. As it’s a long wait from where we stand now, the exact specs are still ripe for speculation.
