2016 Ford Explorer facelift revealed at LA Auto Show

2016 Ford Explorer (1)
Ford celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Explorer by revealing the 2016 facelift model at the 2014 LA Auto Show.

The exterior changes of the new Explorer include a new front bumper, a revised grille and restyled headlights. The rear also gets subtle changes such as updated taillights and a restyled spoiler.

The interior gets better quality materials, while more buttons have been added to the centre console after customer raised some complaints about the touch-sensitive controls on the current one.

A new top variant has been included in the Explorer lineup, called Platinum. It gets LED headlights, silver-painted skid plates, a dual-panel moonroof and 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels. The interior gets perforated Nirvana leather seats, satin-finished ash wood trim, brushed aluminum accents and a heated leather steering wheel with wood inserts. Other features include a digital instrument cluster, a 500-watt Sony audio system and a brushed aluminium Ford emblem on the steering wheel.

As for the engine, a turbocharged 2.3-litre 4-cylinder Ecoboost motor has been introduced, the same unit found in the 2015 Ford Mustang. Ford claims it produces at least 300 hp and 406 Nm of torque.

The 2016 Ford Explorer should make its way to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC countries during the second half of next year.

Keep track of the latest prices and updates in the Ford Explorer buyer guide.
