2014 BMW 2-Series Coupe
Replacing the awkward 1-Series Coupe, the BMW 2-Series has been revealed, ahead of its appearance at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in January. Initial variants include the 220i, the 228i and the M235i, alongside a few Europe-specific diesel variants.

The 220i coupe comes with a 184 hp 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder with 270 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic, capable of 0-100 kph in 7 seconds. The 228i coupe uses a 240 hp 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 350 Nm, mated to a 8-speed auto or a 6-speed manual, managing the 0-100 kph run in 5.4 to 5.6 seconds. The M235i coupe comes with a 326 hp 3.0-litre turbocharged 6-cylinder with 450 Nm of torque, again with an 8-speed auto or a 6-speed manual, capable of 0-100 kph between 4.8 and 5 seconds.

The 2-Series will be offered in basic, Sport Line, Modern Line and the M Sport trim. The M235i only comes in M Sport trim. With the 228i, the Sport Line consists of 18-inch wheels, blacked-out grille and front fascia air intakes, and a blacked-out rear apron. The cabin also features a few upholstery and trim choices unique to the Sport Line. The M Sport gets retuned suspension and sits 10 mm lower, riding on unique lightweight 18-inch alloy wheels. An aero kit and a unique grille are included, as are sport seats, unique dash trims and options such as variable sport steering, an M Sport braking system and adaptive M suspension.

A Driving Experience Control feature is available, utilising a rocker switch near the shifter that allows drivers to change between a number of modes for the car’s suspension, throttle, transmission, steering and engine settings.

With a public debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January, expect the model to appear in UAE, Saudi and other showrooms by summer next year, with a fat price tag to match its specs.

Keep track of updates in the BMW buyer guide.

  1. lovely car..perfectly sized..RWD…beautifully designed and resembling older BMW with a modern touch not like the overbloated other BMW these days.. a convertible M2 version from this generation will be the sexiest driver car BMW had produced in a loooong time!
