2014 Volkswagen Golf R all set to debut at Frankfurt

2014 Volkswagen Golf R
It’s probably fair to say that there’s never been a ‘hot hatch’ war without a Volkswagen Golf. And, Volkswagen is only looking forward in the race, as they are all set to debut their fourth generation Golf R at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new Golf R does pack in a few new treats that sets it aside from its own predecessors. For instance you get a more generous 296 hp and 380 Nm of torque from the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine as opposed to the the 255 hp from the previous generation R.

The power and torque will be sent to all four wheels and it will be coupled to a six-speed manual or a dual-clutch transmission (DSG). But what’s interesting is that the Golf R with the DSG reportedly hits from 0-100 kph in a mere 4.9 seconds. The manual achieves the same feat in 5.1 seconds. The suspension of the Golf R is dropped a further 2 cm more than the regular Mk7 Golf. Alongside that there’s also a rear diffuser and dual-exhaust pipes, and an option for 18 or 19-inch wheels.

We don’t have any access to the interiors of the Golf R yet. But they do tell us that buyers will have an option between sports seats covered in premium cloth or Alcantara with carbon-look leather. There will also be an optional 5, 5.8 or 8-inch touchscreens.

After the Volkswagen Golf R is unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, more details on its sale and pricing will be released. But for now they say that the Golf R will be sold in Europe by the end of the year, so, we have all the reason to believe that it will make it to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC soil sometime early next year.

Keep track of future updates and pricing in the Volkswagen Golf R buyer guide.

  1. The spec sheet looks so nice and tempting, nothing competing with it so far

  2. why is the price from ali & sons different for the same model (highest option)? does ali & sons provide different specifications?
