MINI readies up the John Cooper Works Paceman

The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman, the seventh in the JCW line, will soon be available in showrooms starting March 2013 in the U.S. and not too long after, in the GCC; probably priced at around Dhs 200,000.

“The first Sports Activity Coupe in its class,” as MINI calls it, uses a twin-scroll turbocharged 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine churning out 218 hp at 6,000 rpm, with 280 Nm of twisting power available from 1,900 to 5,000 rpm. And with the overboost function ,the torque figure rises to 300 Nm from 2,100 to 4,500 rpm.

Both the 6-speed manual and automatic variants of the JCW Paceman get from 0 to 100 kph in 6.9 seconds, although the manual trumps the auto-box for top speed, at 226 kph and 224 kph, respectively. It will also return an average fuel economy of 7.4 l/100 km (manual) and 7.9 l/100 km (automatic).

Power from the front-mounted transverse engine will be distributed to all four wheels as standard, via the ALL4 all-wheel-drive system which uses an electronically controlled differential. The suspension has been lowered by 10 millimeters and the car rides on 18-inch in Twin Spoke Black Burnished design alloys; exclusive 19-inch light-alloy wheels in Cross-Spoke Crusher design are also available.

The high-performance Paceman will feature an aero kit and a sports exhaust with dual chrome pipes. The cabin insides gets the usual MINI treatment accented with Chili Red trim. Customers can choose from nine exterior paint schemes, including the Chili Red shade reserved for the JCW model. Chili Red is also available exclusively for the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman’s contrast-colour roof, exterior mirror caps and Sport Stripes.

The car will also feature Brake Energy Regeneration, the Gear Shift Indicator and the Auto Start/Stop function.

The Mini JCW Paceman will be showcased at next month’s 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
