American clocks nearly 5 million km with 1966 Volvo P1800S

You may have heard of Irv Gordon and the world-record mileage on his faithful 1966 Volvo P1800. The car is set to cross yet another milestone.

The American made it into the newspapers back in 2007 when he cruised past the 4.2 million km figure, and once again in 2011 when he added another 482,000 km to the odometer.

It is only a matter of time before he clocks 5 million km, a feat of biblical proportions. As of today, the total distance he has travelled in his P1800S hovers around 4,827,000 km roughly.

Irv bought the coupe back in 1966, straight off the dealers and in the 46 years of ownership he has rebuilt the engine twice, albeit the majority of the original parts supposedly remain.

The retired tutor has been the sole driver to the car since 1966 and on average he clocks nearly 160,000 km per year, traveling to auto shows across the country.

What do you think?

  2. I appreciate the car, and the man for his undying love towards his car..the highest I have ever come across was 1 million kms in a Nissan Sunny, which was still running gr8 and in mint condition.

  3. That’s weird cos Today I took my new Volvo out from the dealer.

  4. That is weird cos Today I took my new Volvo out from the dealer.

  5. Gentle driving, generous quality oil changes and always maintaining your engine will ensure that you cross a million miles with complete ease on today’s modern engines..

This car already once entered the Guinness book of records for being the highest mileage cars..

  6. BTW, that’s one handsome coupe..

  7. 47 year old car…
    47 years = 564 months
    564 months = approx 16920 days
    5,000,000km / 16920 days = 295km/day

    >>>>about 184miles every day<<<<

    Conclusion: Article = bulls#it.
"Gentle driving, generous quality oil" my a5s…
