Mini John Cooper Works 2013 lineup gets new engine

Mini has introduced a new motor for their JCW range of cars. The turbocharged 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine configuration is retained, it even has same the power and torque outputs as the outgoing engine. The only news is that fuel economy and C02 emissions have been improved substantially.

The new engine block has an aluminium construction, reinforced pistons and a low-weight crankshaft. Other modifications include a sodium-filled exhaust valves, an engine start/stop system and brake energy regeneration.

In the JCW Countryman, it produces 215 hp and 280 Nm of torque. The remaining cars in the lineup gets the slightly detuned engine which develops 208 hp and 280 Nm of torque. However the fastest of the lot is the JCW Coupe which is capable of racing to 100 kph from a standstill in 6.4 seconds and can hit 240 kph if the length of tarmac allows it.

Keep track of GCC updates in the Mini buyer guide.
