Nissan Patrol Simpson 50th Anniversary Edition revealed in Australia
The legendary Nissan Patrol, alongside its other legendary Japanese rival, has created legends by traversing the toughest of terrains around the world. Over half a century ago, the Nissan Patrol, in its G60 form, had already traversed treacherous desert terrains, and that is way before it superseded the camel as one of the preferred choice of transport in the dunes of Arabia. One such legendary feat happens to be the historic crossing of Australia’s Simpson Desert back in 1960.
Nissan intends to honor the 50th anniversary of the event, by introducing a special limited edition Nissan Patrol based on the previous-generation Y61 variant, dubbed the Nissan Patrol Simpson 50th Anniversary Edition. This limited-edition model will feature several extra equipment including satellite navigation with Hema Tracks, reversing camera, newly designed alloy bullbar, driving lights, roof bars, kick plates, bonnet protector, air guide, a branded stainless steel wheel-cover, a 41-litre branded cool box and more. Reports suggest that this special-edition Patrol will be powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine pumping out 158 hp and 380 nm of torque. Nissan also intends to re-enact the legendary crossing with a restored Nissan Patrol G60 model, finishing with a celebration in Birdsville, Queensland.
The Simpson 50th Anniversary Edition Patrol will go on sale in Australia from May, and will be limited to 500 units. Due to obvious reasons, this right-hand-drive model making it down to the shores of the UAE, Saudi Arabia and rest of the GCC, is highly unlikely.
