Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG gives G-Wagen new 2013 look

Mercedes-Benz has revealed further details about their updated G-Wagen. Joining the mildly-updated 388 hp G 500 is the all-new 544 hp G63 AMG replacing the G55 AMG, as well as a limited-production 612 hp G65 AMG. The debut is set for the 2012 Beijing Motor Show, a sign that China is the hottest car market in the world right now.

Featuring spray-controlled gasoline direct injection, the ECO stop/start function and alternator management, the G 63 AMG’s 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine develops a maximum output of 544 hp at 5500 rpm and 758 Nm at 2000 rpm, mated to a 7-speed automatic and offering 13% better fuel economy. This enables the 2013 G 63 AMG to do the 0-100 kph run in 5.3 seconds, with a limited top speed of 208 kph. The mysterious G 65 AMG comes with a 6.0-litre biturbo V12 engine, delivering 612 hp and 998 Nm of torque.

The suspension/damper settings in the AMG Sports chassis have been adjusted for the more dynamic handling characteristics of the new model. The 2013 G 63 AMG runs on new AMG split 5-spoke light alloy 20-inch wheels as standard equipment. Ventilated perforated brake discs, with dimensions of 14.8 inches at the front and 13 inches in the rear, are paired with a six-piston fixed-caliper up front, with a single-piston floating-caliper system on the rear axle. Red painted calipers are standard.

The high-gloss black “twin-blade” radiator grille with four chrome inserts as well as the offroad-unfriendly new bumper makes these new G-Class models recognisable as an AMG. The interior features a new instrument panel, infotainment and assist systems. An exclusive interior is created by the “designo” leather upholstery with fluted leather door paneling. Options available include trim in AMG carbon, white lacquer or light brown satin poplar.

The expensive new G-Class models are expected to become available in the GCC by the end of summer this year, especially considering their popularity in the UAE alone.
