Porsche 911 2012-2013 prototype in testing
Porsche has released early “spy shots” of their next-generation 911 sports car. Dubbed the 991-generation, it looks as you’d expect a 911 to look, which is to say, indistinguishable from older versions, but Porsche is making drastic changes beyond the styling.
Reports by other media sources who got a closer look at the prototype say that the new 2012 Porsche 911 will have a wheelbase about 10 cm longer, seemingly catering to their target market who want more comfort and space. It will also be lighter with extensive use of aluminium parts, and other changes include electric power steering with fake “feedback” built in, fuel-saving automatic stop/start, and possibly a 7-speed manual gearbox option, as seen in this prototype, alongside the popular 7-speed PDK automanual. The long-running 3.6-litre straight-6 will apparently be ditched for a smaller 3.4-litre as well as a 3.8-litre sixer.
If you think you’ll love rowing gears like a rowing boat, then wait for the 911 to debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, as it nearly looks ready for production. It was most recently seen in South Africa, undergoing “hot-weather” testing in only 39-degree heat. Maybe they should come to the UAE for that.
Keep track of GCC updates in the Porsche 911 buyer guide.

pretty nice…still after all these years the shape hold its integrity, not too sure about the back end though

So where the hell is the difference between this and the current model. To me, and I don’t look at 911s a lot, but at least I know they look like, I don’t see any difference between the two.
Is it just me?

weather in Riyadh has reached 55 degrees, NOW that would be real hot weather testing 😛
Shibu Daniel
Unofficially 56 degrees in Kuwait, beat that.

I love what i see in the interior… Alot of classical elements have been bought back to life from the 930 generation porsches.. Especially the round steering wheel’s face..

I want to see the same kind of video but with 7 speed manual.

Shifting 7 gears? gimme a break!

I surely want to know the gear ratios and the peak point the engine can take the 7th gear at the lowest RPM.

reverse would then be a button…

My mother can’t tell the difference between cars either. If you are not a Porsche fan, then you wouldn’t know the difference — even if the changes are pointed out to you. Its evolution, not revolution. N’est pas?!
