Red Bull Car Park Drift held in Abu Dhabi
The Red Bull Car Park Drift event was held last weekend in Abu Dhabi. Meant to be the UAE Qualifier for the Middle East-wide Red Bull Car Park Drift 2011, there were as many as 25 contestants trying their luck, with Red Bull’s own sponsored driver putting on an occasional show that evening.
The event, which was supported by the Abu Dhabi Police and sponsored by Chevrolet, was organized on a custom-made track at the Abu Dhabi Corniche. After the 25 got their first try, it became a contest between the top five drivers.
The jury panel consisted of Red Bull driver Abdo Feghali; First Lieutenant Majed Al Marzouqi of Abu Dhabi Police, Ahmed Al Sharif of the Emirates Motorsport Federation, and Rod Fuller of the Yas Marina Circuit.
The jury assessed the candidates according to four factors; the first and main factor was the art of drift with 70% of the overall grade; the remaining percentage was distributed evenly as such: 10% for engine roaring and tire smoke, 10% for crowd reaction, and 10% for car appearance.
Emirati Ahmed Al Amiri won the event. He will soon start preparing for the Championship finale bound that will take place on July 22 in Beirut, where he expects tough competition from some 13 other contestants who will represent various Middle Eastern countries.
