BMW M5 2012 debuts as concept

This is the near-production version of the 2012 BMW M5. Debuting as a supposed concept, the new M5 is of course based on the all-new 5-Series, with a body kit and different wheels making it look a little more than just a sport package.

There aren’t many other details about the new M5 other than that it will get an upgraded version of the turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 from the X5 M, a 7-speed dual-clutch automanual, a fuel-saving start-stop function, 20-inch wheels and an electronic Active M Differential.

Unfortunately this spells the end of the previous-generation’s naturally-aspirated V10, just like how the true manual gearbox went to hell two generations ago.

Expect the production 2012 BMW M5 to reach showrooms in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC countries.

Keep track of local updates in the BMW 5-Series buyer guide.
