Overview
The Compass is an all-new compact all-wheel-drive 4WD that throws Jeep's off-road reputation out the window. It is based on the Dodge Caliber and features Jeep styling cues such as a seven-slot grille and round headlights. The windshield is steeply raked and the lower than that of a traditional 4WD, but it comes with sculpted fenders, standard 17-inch wheels or optional 18-inch wheels, and a simulated locking differential. The Compass is powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with either a standard 5-speed manual transmission or an optional second-generation CVT automatic transmission. The Compass Limited with CVT offers the AutoStick feature that allows drivers to control the transmission manually so that it simulates a 6-speed gearbox. The full-time active four-wheel-drive system includes a "Lock" mode for use on low-traction surfaces.
