Audi A6 2005 Overview
The Audi A6 is available as a sedan and a wagon in this region, along with the sporting S6, although the wagons seem popular only for fleet duty. The engines available in the front-wheel-drive platform are the 2.0-litre inline-4 turbo, as well as the 2.4-litre and the 3.2-litre V6 powerplants, and in the Quattro all-wheel-drive platform, the 3.2-litre V6, the 4.2-litre V8, and for the S6, a 5.2-litre V10. The transmission of choice in these cars is either the CVT or the traditional six-speed automatic, depending on model. The S-Line sports package is available on 3.2 and 4.2 sedans. Other features include a Bose surround sound standard on the 4.2, adaptive cruise control and adaptive air suspension are available, and 17-inch wheels are standard on the 3.2, while the 4.2 gets 18-inch rims. The A6 attempts to offer a blend of comfort and performance, and the Quattro models certainly do well here. The 3.2 does a good job of lugging passengers around, while the 4.2 and S6 are pure muscle. The front-wheel-drive models are purely for cosmetic purposes, considering the wrong wheels put the power down, unlike rear-wheel-drive offerings from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Audi A6 2005 Reliability & Resale Value
Reliability | |
---|---|
Resale Value | |
Known Problems | Faulty fuel gauge and jammed parking brake apparently fixed by software upgrade. Reports of random loose trim, particularly around windows and other cabin pieces. Random untraceable vibrations reported. Some report electrically-adjustable steering column failing. Early models have various small problems, such as sticking fuel-filler door, key stuck in ignition, car refusing to lock, and oil leaks occurring on the 3.2-litre engine at the timing chain upper covers and from camshaft sealing plugs, fixed by new sealant and plugs. Some report corrupt navigation DVD. In first-year models, ABS may activate unnecessarily under normal braking due to cracks in tone wheels. Faulty power windows, broken fuel gauges and busted boot-lid struts being reported even on brand new cars. HID headlights flicker due to oxidation entering poorly-sealed lights, and generally not covered under warranty. |
