2006 Opel Vectra

The Vectra is Opel's attempt at the upper end of the midsize car market, although more conservative pricing would've helped it compete against the larger Japanese midsize sedans. The Vectra was the first European application of GM's front-wheel-drive Epsilon platform, shared with the Saab 9-3. This architecture uses aluminium in the suspension and bonnet, magnesium in the dashboard cross member and lots of high-tensile steel. The Vectra, available as a sedan or a liftback, received a new front end during the 2006 model year. The largish interior can hold five people, and luggage space can be increased by folding down the rear bench seat. The extensive range of engines available in Europe has been cut down to a single 2.2-litre four-cylinder in the Middle East, mated with only a five-speed automatic transmission.
