Overview

The long-running Town Car is Lincoln's full-size luxury sedan based on the Ford Crown Victoria rear-wheel-drive platform. Numerous trim series are available, including the Signature, the Signature Limited, and the long-wheelbase Signature L. Power comes from a 4.6-litre V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Town Car puts power to the ground through its rear wheels via a 3.27:1 rear-axle ratio, with traction control and ABS brakes as standard. Standard features include power windows, electric mirrors, 17-inch wheels, rear parking assist, keyless entry, CD stereo, leather seats, auto-dimming rearview mirror, front and side airbags, automatic climate control, power-adjustable pedals and power-adjustable front seats. Options in higher trims include HID headlights, CD changer, sunroof, two-tone paint and power-operated luggage trunk lid. The car is pretty dated now, but a mild redesign in 2003 involved upgrades both inside and out.

Known Problems
Very reliable. Minor problems in pre-2005 models all fixed under warranty. The a/c blower may quit working or change to another speed without input from passengers, requiring a new wiring harness from the blower motor speed controller. The radiator fan motor may stop working in 2003 models, requiring a new wire between the powertrain control module (PCM) and fan motor. Some pre-2005 engines may develop a ticking sound from the engine at idle requiring replacement of the cylinder head and camshaft assembly. The rear wheels in pre-2006 models may chatter during low speed turns requiring installation of a revised clutch pack in the 8.8-inch, limited slip differential.
