Overview
The V70, based on the S60, is tuned to be a sports wagon, but is betrayed by a front-wheel-drive chassis and weak regional engine choices. The interior is fairly spacious and the luggage area is huge thanks to its upright boxy shape. For the Middle East market, there is a basic 2.4-litre 5-cylinder only for the V70 wagon, although European markets get as many engines as the S60 sedan. Gearbox choices include a manual and an automatic. Maintaining Volvo tradition, safety features include dual front airbags, side impact airbags for SIPS, inflatable curtain airbags and WHIPS whiplash protection. In this region, the V70 is sadly relegated largely to taxi duties.

Known Problems
Central locking and stereo faults. Engine mounts fail prematurely. In pre-2003 models, alternator dies due to heat, but redesigned replacement apparently available. Possible oil leaks from differential vent rectified with redesigned replacement vent valve. Air filter box bends out of shape due to pressure, and replacement is necessary to avoid serious damage. Suspension bushings may wear prematurely. Check for suspension ball-joint wear. Cabin trim peels off eventually. Wrong error messages about burnt-out bulbs seem common. Other random electrical faults.
