2011 Volkswagen Scirocco

The Scirocco is revival of Volkswagen's odd-shaped 1970s model that attempted to bridge the gap between a hatchback and a coupe. It last died out in 1992, until its revival as a concept car in 2006 and a production car by 2008. Debuting in the GCC as a 'sportier' alternative to the VW Golf, the Scirocco lifts platforms, engines and even interior panels from the Golf. However, the cabin itself has a lower roofline while retaining seating for four. Engines include a 1.4-litre TSI 4-cylinder with both a supercharger and a turbocharger, as well as a 2.0-litre FSI turbocharged 4-cylinder. The GCC dealers will be pushing the automatic version locally, with the 'DSG' automanual gearbox, but it can be special-ordered with a 6-speed manual. A higher-tuned Scirocco R model became available in 2012, with more power, a body kit and firmer suspension.
