In what could possibly be the most hotly-anticipated sports car of the decade, the Toyota 86 finally made its showroom debut as a mid-2012 model. The 86 is a collaborative effort with Subaru, and therefore versions are available under both nameplates. Available in various trim levels, the front-engine rear-wheel-drive car comes with a Subaru-sourced 2.0-litre 4-cylinder direct-injection boxer engine, mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic. For some markets such as the UAE, the manual will only be available in base form, with higher trim levels available on special-order. The automatic can be had with all trim levels. Early models had engine issues related to software, fixed under warranty by ECU reflash.
