2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster debuted in 2011, a year after the Coupe. It is supposed to be an everyday-use supercar, a product of in-house development by AMG. The coupe's trademark 'gullwing' doors are lost here in favour of conventional doors, easing entry and exit. Underneath the long bonnet is the usual AMG-built 6.2-litre V8 engine, and mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automanual gearbox in this application. A lightweight structure molded largely from carbon-fibre and aluminium double-wishbone suspension form the basics of the SLS. Among other things, the centre console incorporates the AMG DRIVE UNIT, which enables SLS owners to customise their vehicle set-up, while the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission is operated by means of the E-SELECT lever.
